 I.D.E.A.S de SMC

Hey Everybody! So it’s time to get your calendars ready! I have a few reminders/invites for all of you guys! :) After a second successful IDEAS meeting, here is some information I promised to email!
1.       MOST IMPORTANT: On Tuesday, September 20th, we’re going to have a phone banking event!! This is something you can do even if you can’t show up to our event (although we encourage you to go!). So we’re going to be on the walkway giving calls to our governor Jerry Brown, and we’re going to be asking him to sign the bill into effect! Remember, for every one call, there might be 2 calls against us! So get your phones ready and ASK YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILIES TO DO THE SAME:
a.       Call the Gov. Brown Opinion Poll Phone: 916-445-2841
b.      Select desired language (English, press 1 and Spanish, press 2)
c.       Press 2 for casting a vote on legislation
d.      Press 1 for voting on The CA Dream Act, AB 131
e.      Lastly, press 1 to vote "IN SUPPORT" of AB 131
That's it. It's all automated. You may have to call several times if you get a busy signal. WE CAN DO THIS!
2.       The El Camino Dreamers are having a “BONDfire” (Bonfire) on Saturday, September 24, from 6:00pm-11:30pm(more like 10pm, because I think that’s the time the beach closes), and it’s going to be at Dockweiler State Beach. If any of you are interested to go, let me know. It’s a pot-luck, so try to bring stuff!
3.       Thursday, September 29th, Chirla is having their 2nd annual club party. Its called “Light the Dream; California Dream Network Fundraiser Club Party.” Its from 9:30p-2:00a at Leonardo’s night club (I think the one on La Brea). If you have a facebook, here’s the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=245858368782528.
4.       Lastly, on October 11th, during activity hour (11:15-12:45), on the Library walkway, SMC is going to be hosting the largest “College Fair” out of all the community colleges. This is a GREAT opportunity to find the right college for you if you don’t have one yet, or find more thing about your college if you do have one. Also, you can find out more about other campuses that you weren’t considering! Come out and have questions ready for the representatives! They’re there to help you! :)
So I hope you guys can make it to one or all of these events. I know I’m definitely going to try. See you all around! :)
